A private assessment is a confidential conversation, typically by phone, that helps determine what level of care may be appropriate before you commit to any specific program.
It is not a diagnosis and does not obligate you to anything. Think of it as the starting point that helps a treatment guidance specialist understand your situation well enough to point you toward realistic, relevant options.
What an Assessment Covers
A typical assessment reviews substance use history, mental health symptoms, prior treatment experience, current living situation, and any immediate medical concerns such as withdrawal risk. This information helps determine whether medical detox, residential treatment, or a lower level of care is the more appropriate starting point, and it helps narrow down which private programs are equipped to handle your specific clinical picture.
Assessment Is Not a Commitment
Completing a private assessment does not enroll you in any program. It simply gives you (and, if applicable, the person you are helping) clearer information to make a decision. Many people complete an assessment weeks or months before actually entering treatment, and that is a normal part of the process.
